Today, we’re proud to share the Medicus Pension Plan’s latest Annual Report, Your Future. Our Commitment. It’s a look back at a year of meaningful progress and a clear picture of how the plan continues to grow, evolve and deliver for Canada’s physicians.
We continued to focus firmly on what matters most to our members and on strengthening the foundation that supports secure retirement income. That meant advancing legislative efforts to open the plan to more jurisdictions, delivering solid investment results to support the plan for the long term and improving digital tools.
A year of momentum
2025 was a year of momentum for Medicus, with several standout milestones:
- A funded status of 140%, meaning the plan holds $140 in assets for every $100 of pension promised. This funding level emphasizes Medicus’ financial strength and positions the plan to move into 2026 with stability.
- A 13.7% one year rate of return, reflecting strategic investing and long term resilience.
- Full inflation protection for the fourth year in a row, helping members’ pensions keep pace with rising costs and preserve purchasing power over time.
- An average of $20,000 increase in annual pension income for members who participated in the 2025 buyback program, maximizing retirement income and providing greater predictability starting at age 65.
- The addition of private assets to the investment portfolio, enhancing diversification and positioning the plan for more resilient, long term performance.
2025 also marked growth in how we support members, as we expanded our national presence by introducing a dedicated physician experience role, enhancing engagement and support across the country.
